Deccan Chargers beat Mumbai Indians by 12 runs
Cape Town, Apr 25 (ANI): Deccan Chargers beat Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Saturday.
Deccan Chargers’ skipper Adam Gilchrist won the toss and elected to bat first. Gilchrist with his opening partner Gibbs added 63 runs for the first wicket. Gilchrist scored 35 runs off 20 balls with three fours and three sixes.
After his departure, Dwayne Smith also played some good shots and scored 35 off 22 balls with two fours and two sixes.
Once Deccan Chargers was standing strong at a total of 136 runs for the loss of three wickets after 14 overs. But, late strikes by Lasith Malinga stopped Chargers at a score of 168.
For Mumbai Indians, Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo were most successful bowlers with three wickets each.
Chasing a victory target of 169, Mumbai Indians lost its first wicket at a score of four, when Sanath Jayasuriya declared caught behind after scoring only one run.
After his departure, Mumbai Indians skipper Sachin Tendulkar and J. P. Duminy played some fine shots and added 82 runs for the second wicket. Tendulkar scored 36 runs off 27 balls with three fours and two sixes.
After adding few more runs in his account, Duminy (47 runs off 40 balls) also returned to pavilion.
Mumbai Indian’s aspiration of a win further suffered when shikhar Dawan (3 runs off 7 balls) and Abhishek Nayar (10 runs off 6 balls) fell very shortly.
Harbhajan Singh tried to take his team to a winning end and hit 20 runs off 8 balls with one four and two sixes, but more efforts needed for a victory.
Mumbai Indian could manage to score only 156 runs for the loss of seven wickets after 20 overs.
For Deccan Charges, Pragyan Ojha took three wickets in his quota of four overs. He was later declared ‘Man of the Match’ for this match winning bowling. (ANI)
