A positive mental attitude results from a life dedicated to self-improvement and service. With a personal commitment to doing our best today, we don’t have to be so much concerned about tomorrow. We can be confident that good things will happen and be equally confident that if trouble comes we will have the strength and skills to cope, take control and then conquer. We are born tough. We don’t allow our doubts to destroy our dreams. Hope does spring eternal.
We are thankful to have the curiosity to keep learning. We are grateful to see opportunity knock so often. Our mind can only hold one thought at a time. So make one thought positive. We count our blessings. This way is clear. The world is a better place because we are in it. There is no better time to start taking positive action than right now. We research and we have confidence in our preparations. We don’t allow ourselves to become paralysed in indecision. We realise that a time will come when we must act. If we hesitate too long, doubts will linger and turn into fears. Yes, we may stumble. Yes, we may be rejected. Yes, we may fail. This is life. Life’s winners accept that in trying they may have to adjust and even start again and again. The difference between successful people and others is not whether they make mistakes and even temporarily fail, but how they respond.
Many people look for guarantees before taking independent actions. Yet, in seeking assurances, they frequently receive cautions, which can easily be used as excuses for inaction. Be aware that those whom we love the most may be the loudest in warning us not to risk. Hardship means that we are willing to stand tall and persevere. Even when our mind and body signal perfectly good reasons for giving up, you go on. This hardship is obvious. But hardship can be seen every day if we choose to look. It is very difficult to reject false praise and honestly accept our weaknesses. It is very difficult to make the best from what we are given. It is difficult to make the decision to replace self-pity, complaints and dependence with self-reliance, independence and action.
A positive attitude towards change also needs humility. Only a self-assured person dares to be humble, for humility demands that we should be willing to admit that we do not know all the answers and that some of our answers are wrong. Life is a test and the points on that test are earned by how much attention we give to improving ourselves and helping others. When our test is graded, to what we will attribute our success, study, hard work, personality, talent, skill, opportunity, connections, patronage or luck? No amount of material success earned and kept will be awarded credit. The greater our blessings, the greater our obligations to share our good fortune.
