Mahesh Bhupathi’s winning momentum at the US Open has been accelerated, as the top seed cruised into the mixed doubles quarter-finals of the US Open on Saturday.
Bhupathi and his mixed doubles partner Liezel Huber beat American pair Jill Craybas and Eric Butorac in straight of 6-3, 6-3.
In another match, Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy entered men’s doubles third round after beating Nicolas Almagro and Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in straight of 6-2, 6-3.
Paes and Dlouhy next play Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer for the quarter-finals berth.
Earlier in the day, partnering with Mark Knowles, Bhupathi reached the men’s doubles third round of the US Open after beating Jesse Levine and Ryan Sweeting 7-5, 6-2.
Bhupathi and Knowles will fight with Yen-Hsun Lu and Dudi Sela for the men’s doubles quarter-finals berth
Bhupathi and his Ameriacn partner Leizel Huber scored a straight set victory over unseeded pair of Marcelo Melo of Brazil and American Vania King in the mixed doubles opening round.
The Indo-American duo made a sluggish start and were stretched a bit in the first set but the combo stamped their authority in the second set to win the match 7-5, 6-0 in 62 minutes.
Bhupathi and Knowles beat James Cerretani and Lovro Zovko 6-3, 6-4 in the men’s doubles second round at the US Open.
