As the country debates the CBSE’s move of making Class X board examination optional, ICSE schools on Tuesday maintained that there was no question of making Class X exam an option in ICSE schools.
Speaking to reporters at the 88th annual conference of association of heads of Anglo-Indian schools in Bangalore, Gerry Arathoon, acting CEO of the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), said, “We are not considering that option at all. We believe that it is necessary for a child to get exposed to a Board exam. It is this exam where the child puts his heart and soul into. If it is made optional, the seriousness comes down. The X exam will help him prepare for the XII boards. I am sure the parents agree with me.”
Arathoon said that the council will not dilute syllabus. “English has been our forte. We will not dilute the syllabus. In fact, we will concentrate on improving their speaking and listening skills.”
