Ekta Chowdhry – Dressed to kill, trained to win!

A peep into Pantaloons Femina Miss India Universe 2009 Ekta Chowdhry’s luggage that went with her to the Bahamas last night revealed her wardrobe for the Miss Universe pageant.

Ritu Kumar has designed her national costume which the couturist described as “a vibrant outfit, the skirt’s red and black with heavy zardozi and embroidery, with a full dhapka work blouse, and two odhnis to match – one with decorative embroidery carried over the shoulder and the other is a fine red net one”.

Gauri and Nainika have designed Ekta’s evening wear finale gown, Anamika Khanna fusion wear “because Ekta’s tall and stylish and can carry drapes and outfits easily”. Other designers whose clothes the Indian beauty queen will be wearing include Lecoanet Hemant, Malini Ramani, Haasya Chandna, Narendra Kumar Ahmed, Ranna Gill, Prasad Bidappa and Vardha Rajan (Arabella), Ashley Rebello and Varun Bahl. Her wardrobe has been styled by Jayati Bose with the help from contestant and fashion director Marc Robsinson.

Other PFMI experts who prepared her for the Bahamas include Prashant Talwalkar (fitness and diet), Sabira Merchant (diction), Vinita Alvares Fernandes (etiquette), Dr Abhijit Desai (makeover expert from Evolve), Dr Rekha Sheth (Nivea Visage skin care expert), Dr Dilip Deshpande (smile and dental care expert), Dr Apoorva Shah and Dr Sonal Shah (hair care experts from Richfeel Trichology Centre) and Najeeb ur Rehman (chief colour and styling consultant from Schwarzkopf Professional). Executive chef Hemant Oberoi conducted a special etiquette session at his Chef’s Studio at The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Mumbai, while Shiamak Davar (the guru of modern dance in India) held contemporary dance sessions. Ekta’s footwear is courtesy Stoffa (Hersh Kotecha) and Judith Leiber for her bags. “I knew I was in the hands of the best people in the industry,” said a grateful Ekta Chowdhry before departing.
