Salvi (Gujarat), June 6 (ANI): Bombardier Transportation India (BTI) rolled out Bombardier Movia, the first indigenously built metro car from its manufacturing unit, in Savli of Gujarat.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi launched the roll out of the first metro car.Modi congratulated Bombardier’s officials for unveiling the first Indian built Metro car in record period.
“I give my heartedly congratulations to all my friends of Bombardier company for rolling out the first Movia car (a coach indigenously built in the country for Delhi Metro) before the set deadline. The company also feels proud of it as it was for the first time in the history of 150-years of the company that the work has been done so fast, ” he said.
The world’s number one passenger train maker Bombardier has invested 33 million euros in the metro manufacturing factory at Savli in the Vadodara district of Gujarat. It is the first such plant in India to be wholly owned by a global foreign company.
Bombardier Transportation, a unit of Bombardier has orders for 424 Delhi metro cars valued at 727 million dollars.
The MOVIA fleet will play a vital role in increasing sustainable mobility for India`s capital and will transport an impressive four million passengers every day.
The 22.5-metre long and 3.2 metre wide metro car weighs 45 tons.
The first 36 vehicles for Delhi’s metro rail will be built in Goerlitz, Germany and the following 388 cars in Savli, where Bombardier has recently inaugurated a modern railway vehicle manufacturing facility. (ANI)
