Theatre in the form of a spectacle

Indian Theatre

Theatre in its concept has its genesis impromptu performance, not dependent upon the razzmatazz of the location, or the extravagant sets to engage the viewing public. The informal nature of the set up and reliance on performance than on the costumes in general to convey the idea of the script has been the guiding principle in evolution of the theatre.

But things are indeed going to change in a big way, at least in National Capital Region of Delhi, i.e. in Gurgaon where in Sector 29 is getting shape a theatre and leisure one-stop shop. It is hoped that after this structure comes up, Gurgaon’s reputation of being a concrete jungle would undergo change.

Once this new structure finally takes shape, it would provide a platform to unravel the mystique of theatre in an extravagant manner, primarily objective of the structure being to use it as a platform for staging mega scale production of Bollywood musicals as also such large scale musicals from other parts of the world.

Wiz craft the Mumbai based event company is one of the strategic partners in this venture along with the Apra Group. The company which would run this show has been christened as the Great Indian Nautanki Company. The nomenclature in of the venture in itself is reflective of the large canvas on which it proposes to operate. There would be two theatres in which the plays would be staged and they have been aptly named as Nauntki Mahal and Showshaa Theate. Besides, provision as also been made to develop an area where cultural views and ideas would be exchanged and has been aptly christened as Culture Galli. It would be an up market, air-conditioned clone of the famous Delhi Haat.

While the Nautanki Mahal would have the capacity to sit around 850 patrons, Shoshaa Theatre would have capacity for 250 patrons. In Nautanki Mahal the stage has been designed in shape of crests and troughs dipping up to the basement at a place and rising up to 2 m so that aura of spectacle can be created with panache by utilizing these structural offerings. As Wizcraft is associated with the venture, it aims to bring its specialization of event management with all spectacles on to the stage that would include setting the stage on fire or creating an ambience of thunderstorm, all in a simulated atmosphere by harnessing the tools of technology.
