We are all waiting for the Ash-Abhi starrer Ravana with baited breath. This will be the first movie starring the couple since Guru, and as luck would have it, even this one is directed by Mani Ratnam.
What few people know is that while Ash was always to be a part of Ravana, Abhishek wasn’t the first choice for the role of Rama.
It was instead, one actor who Ash has had a slightly terse relationship with – Shah Rukh Khan.
After Mani Ratnam cast Ash, he told her that he intended to ask Shah Rukh to play opposite her. Since vibes between them have been better lately, Ash agreed.
Ratnam then approached Shah Rukh, who was only too happy to agree. He told reporters the sequence of events recently. “Yes Mani sir had spoken to me. Actually there were two reasons I said yes to him. I had given up on Idiots or they had thrown me out of it, anyway you want to look at it. And Robots had fallen through with Shankar. So both films were not happening and I had time. Mani sir said he had a project for me and we decided to chat about it when he came to Bombay,” SRK said.
He added, “But unfortunately by the time we sat on it, Adi had already approached me for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and I had committed to it. But I would love to work with Mani sir any time.”
So it seems that both Shah Rukh and Ash have considered the possibility of working together. That is good news for fans because they are undoubtedly Bollywood’s hottest actors and to see them back together on screen would be a treat for any Bollywood lover.
While Shah Rukh and Ash did act in a few films opposite each other, a major rift came between them when Ash broke up with Salman, accusing him of abuse, and Shah Rukh decided to take his side. He showed his support towards Salman by unceremoniously dropping Ash from Chalte Chalte. Ever since, the two have not really spoken to each other.
In the past one year, however, it seems Shah Rukh and Ash have been attempting a make-up, they were even seen posing together at the premiere of Drona. Is this a result of the SRK-Salman fall-out?
