As Bipasha Basu celebrates a decade in cinema and is taking John Abraham to meet her parents in Kolkata on the eve of Dussehra, she would surely hope that AAKROSH, which releasing on October 15, would stamp her authority as a consummate actress. Bipasha is appearing in a totally deglamorised role, contrary to the svelte look that she is sporting these days to promote her health video, and it could be in keeping with the spirit of the Navratri.
AAKROSH has some underpinnings and parallels with GUMRAH where the lovers who went around together are juxtaposition against each other by quirk fate. With a decade in films, for Bipasha the wheel has indeed turned full circle as in her debut film AJNABEE she played the role of a married woman and now in AAKROSH again she is playing the role of a married woman.
For a female actor, a decade is a long time in Hindi cinema to graduate from being a glamorous star to emerge as an actor of substance. Bipasha seems to be following the same trajectory. Fortunate indeed she is, as she is working with director like Priyadarshan to help her in this image makeover. Though Priyadarshan off-late has developed comedy as his forte, he is also the director who has given such sensitive hits like GARDISH and VIRAASAT which gave a much needed shot in the arm for acting careers of Jackie Shroff, Tabu and Anil Kapoor in that order.
AAKROSH is another look at honor killing and has a background of Bihar, but interestingly enough the film has extensively been shot in Karaikudi. For Ajay Dvgun it is another return to films with Bihar as theme, his association starting with LAJJA, GANGAJAL, APHARAN, OMKARA and RAJNEET. he has been single handedly able to bring about the trials and tribulations of a person who is harassed by the system and one only hopes that AAKROSH would provide him an opportunity to deliver another super hit performance.
It is after a long- long time that films of John Abraham and Bipasha Basu would be competing simultaneously at the box office, and it would be interesting to see whom will the audience favor.
For Bipasha AAKROSH comes as an opportunity to display her histrionics as she is pitted against finest actors of the country in the form of Ajay Dvgun, Akshay Khanna and Paresh Rawal. Would it also have a ramification on Bihar’s elections as well, let’s wait and watch.
